The banana class starter

This is a really silly exercise that my students love it’s a testament to my never ending pursuit to find fun and interactive exercises and activities that serve as great lead-ins to my lessons. I used this one when we were learning fruits and vegetables.

I got this idea from a user on Dave’s ESL cafe but I modified it a bit to improve on it and better suit my students. I call this one The banana retard. No offence intended for those sensitive skins.

How it works

  1. Get one student to come in front of the class.
  2. Whisper to him/her that he can only respond to any question the class asks with “banana”. For example, where are you from? Answer, banana.
  3. Then tell the rest of the class to ask him/her any question they want.

This makes for a good laugh and gets the kids in a good mood to learn. Give it a try.

Cheers

  1. You are right. It is so silly but so effective.
I used to play it in my English class in school and always enjoyed it.
